Dr. Theofania N. Tsironi holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Food Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, as well as a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the National School of Public Health. In 2016, Dr. Tsironi received the IKY Excellence Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Greece – SIEMENS program, for postdoctoral research at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens (now University of West Attica). Since September 2019, she is an Assistant Professor at the Laboratory of Food Processing Engineering, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, Agricultural University of Athens, with a specialization in Food Packaging.
Her research activity focuses on the areas of quality assessment and shelf life modeling of chilled and frozen foods, packaging (smart and active), as well as processing and preservation processes. She has extensive experience in the development and application of alternative packaging materials (including biodegradable ones) and innovative surface treatment methods to improve active packaging performance, biodegradability and polymer properties.
Her research results have been published in 66 peer-reviewed scientific journals, 8 book chapters and more than 160 conference proceedings (h-index 24, Scopus, July 2024).
