SOLOMAKOS NIKOLAOSRank/Position: Associate Professor, University of Thessaly Scientific Field: Food Hygiene of Animal Origin Faculty/Department/Research Institution: Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Thessaly Student Contact Hours: Tuesday 12:00 – 14:00 Nikolaos Solomakos graduated in 2001 from the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Thessaly and completed his doctoral thesis with a scholarship at the Laboratory of Food Hygiene of Animal Origin of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Thessaly, which he successfully completed in 2007. Since 2009, he has been serving as a faculty member at the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Thessaly. and currently as Associate Professor. He has participated as a scientific manager and member of the research team in national and European research programs. He is a member of editorial boards and a reviewer in scientific journals. He has published more than 130 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. He is the supervisor of 3 doctoral theses in progress and has supervised more than 20 master’s theses, while he has participated in more than 50 three-member advisory committees of master’s theses. TSIRONI THEOFANIARank/Position: Associate Professor, Agricultural University of Athens Scientific Field: Food Packaging Faculty/Department/Research Institution: Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition, A.U.A. Dr. Theofania N. Tsironi holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Food Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, as well as a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the National School of Public Health. In 2016, Dr. Tsironi received the IKY Excellence Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Greece – SIEMENS program, for postdoctoral research at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens (now University of West Attica). Since September 2019, she is an Assistant Professor at the Laboratory of Food Processing Engineering, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, Agricultural University of Athens, with a specialization in Food Packaging. Her research activity focuses on the areas of quality assessment and shelf life modeling of chilled and frozen foods, packaging (smart and active), as well as processing and preservation processes. She has extensive experience in the development and application of alternative packaging materials (including biodegradable ones) and innovative surface treatment methods to improve active packaging performance, biodegradability and polymer properties. Her research results have been published in 66 peer-reviewed scientific journals, 8 book chapters and more than 160 conference proceedings (h-index 24, Scopus, July 2024).
